One is the normal model and covers all average Thoroughbred, Polo & Quarter horse foals, and the other is large for most Warmblood foals. As a guideline, order the regular for smaller breeds and the large for larger ones, but the difference is not strictly by species but by foal and age. The large boot is only 1 cm wider in the carpus and 3 cm higher. The area of the fetlock and foot is similar. With small foals the problem is that the bracket is too high and hits the chest behind the elbow. A trick for this is to take a round piece of wood or hard rubber about 3cm thick and place it in the bracket at the bottom of the foot area, and it will lift the foal up when it stands on it. If necessary, you can correct the difference in the hoof and fetlock area with more bandage. The RedBoot collection was developed by equine veterinarian Dr. A. Almanza in Argentina.
